For the tub- build a platform that isn’t all the way visible and if you have 2 feet, use those 2 on the side that you see when you enter the room…if that would work. Would give the illusion of freestanding maybe?

Thanks for the suggestion. We are looking at all our options at this point. I love the tub but I’m terrified it’s going to fall over with me in it haha

The “owner/builder” concept isn’t all its cracked up to be in most house projects! In the end, you will be happy with the outcome and.....hopefully still be happy living with each other! Can’t wait to see the finished product.

Indeed. That’s just one of the concepts we know now that we didn’t know then. Old habits (and DIY spirits) are hard to break!

I better not let Carrie read this! We are starting the search for a place to retire and it's much easier to just buy raw land than find a house with what we want, on that land. Carrie has said she doesn't want to build a house. So we're looking for raw land. Am I, or is she, missing the contradiction in that process? I'm 65. This why they make builders!

Also, land down here is cheap and we will tell you everything we did wrong on our house!

Paying someone to build for you is a whole different ballgame. Do not be your own GC. They know things you do not, and you don’t know what you don’t know until it’s too late. Pay the money.
