I truly respect your desire to use non-pharmaceutical treatments. But my experience has been asthma since age 7. I had it pretty well managed from my teens til I was about 64. , when I became constantly short of breath. I submitted to the air flow test (over an hour), and saw my pulmonogy PA (she’s really excellent.)

She did put me on a cortisone inhaler, which has improved things a lot. She also hassles me about using my CPAP machine home more regularly (along with my cardiologist, my psychiatrist, and my primary. But she does it very nicely.

Should you decide to try it again, here is my routine: I use the inhaler as instructed BEFORE I brush my teeth. After I take care of the teeth/gums, I use my toothbrush to brush the roof of my mouth and my tongue, as far back as I can go without gagging. Then I gargle and spit with plain water, and finish up with swishing plain water in my mouth and spitting. I’ve been on it for 4 mo and no thrush.

Praying you can find the products that both help adequately and that you trust. (And stay away from allergens as much as you possibly can. Any problems before my teens were usually caused by allergen exposure, because I didn’t have the maturity to stay away from the cute kitties and puppy dogs.)

Probably TMI. Let us know what you find and how you are doing!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am not anti-medication, I just want to manage this as long as I can with the fewest side-effects possible. It’s a lot more work to do it this way, but for now I’ll give it a go.

Gotcha! Praying God will direct you to the best products for YOU. And I’m so sorry you are a repeat Covid patient. My daughter-in-law gets it a couple times a year, and it’s miserable.

I thought I had adult onset asthma in 2020…even saw a specialist who wanted to do an $800 allergy test on me. 🙄 For me, it ended up (I figured out on my own) that it was dehydration. I wasn’t drinking enough water.

But if you really do have asthma, I don’t have any recommendations for that, but I can give you one on mouthwash. Spry makes one with no alcohol…not a strong taste at all, but very effective. They also make one with alcohol, so don’t get the wrong one. None have fluoride. It’s sweetened with xylitol which is great for oral health!

I’m sorry you’re having to go through this. Def stay hydrated! Which I’m sure you already do. 😁

I do stay well hydrated. I take my 34oz Yeti with me everywhere I go. But thanks for the mouthwash recommendation! Hopefully I’ll be able to avoid the inhaler and it will be (as Joey said) a moo point.

I have mild asthma that started when I was in my 40s. It kicks in seriously whenever I get a URI, now that I'm in my 60s. I use Clear Lung by Ridgecrest Herbals, and it has been very helpful. I'll text you a screenshot since Substack doesn't seem to allow images in the comments.

Sorry, Karen! I battled asthma most of my life, and inhalers, and then started doing research :0

So Breathe Easy from Nature's Warehouse (https://natureswarehouse.net) to the rescue!

Hope your day is great! It was great talking with you at the camp! Our daughter will likely see you at the PA camp.

Side effects, huh? But…can cause ASTHMA is the kicker! Really? Hope someone comes to your aid with another solution. If not, you may have to take your chances! I’ve seen lots of children use inhalers without a mouthwash. Being children, they have probably not been through “IT” like you have! I pray you will find a solution that will not be worse than the problem! 🙏🏻

I’m sorry I can’t help with any treatment suggestions, but I do know that when the going gets tough, the tough take a vacation. ❤️
