New
There is something about a new year that brings a desire to make positive changes. Better eating or exercise habits, quitting things that don’t serve us anymore, less work, more rest—there is an endless number of ways we can celebrate a new beginning.
But did you know a 2016 study found that, on average, only 9–12% of New Year’s resolutions were actually kept? That’s a dismal record and I’m pretty sure I helped set it.
But God loves newness! All through the Bible, God did or made a lot of new things. I actually sat down and used an old-fashioned Strong’s concordance—on paper, no less!—and found them all a few weeks ago.
He made things new, gave us a new song, made a new covenant and a new testament, gave us a new name, a new spirit, and new mercies. He made us a new man, a new creature, and a new lump. And there are more!
I had so much fun learning about all the new things God did, I thought it would make a great scripture-writing theme for this first month of 2023. So here it is!
There are 30 days of scriptures that describe the new things God did or made or gave us. That leaves one last day to thank God for it all, or to set an intention for the new year, or to choose a word of focus for the year if you’re given to those kinds of things.
Just think, by the end of January when everyone else has already failed to keep their New Year’s resolutions, you will just be beginning your new thing, but you’ll have the boost of God’s own words to help you along!
If you’d like to join me, here’s the schedule. Feel free to share it with your friends!
Thank you for being the best readers. You make writing a dream come true and I’m not even kidding.
Wishing you a wonderful and blessed 2023!
